Wind Demons: Rosier, Demon of Love (horn)
Wind Demons: Rosier, Demon of Love (horn)
From Wind Demons, a set of six short solo pieces for wind instruments, Rosier is written for horn in F. It utilizes incantation of Latin prayer into the instrument as a form of musical spiritual warfare.
Rosier [Ro-zeer] is the Demon of Love. He is often reclusive from the human eye, and most of his work is done from afar. For this reason, he’s thought to be very shy.
“Sunt mala quae libas (The things you offer are evil),” from St. Benedict’s exorcism prayer, counteracts Rosier’s deception. As the Demon of Love, he waits in shadowy corners, listening carefully to our hearts’ desires, and seduces the desperate lover to entrap the object of their affections with his help. Such entrapment is of evil design that ultimately leads to destruction and pain. Best to realize the things offered by the Demon of Love result in ruin and stay far away.
